July 23rd, Friends of the Branch meeting

My hosts are both Friends of the Branch, together with a lot of people who live on the watershed of the Branch river, that passes their land until it unites with the Manitowoc River, that end in Lake Michigan. Friends of the Branch's goal is to keep their river healthy and clear, as most of them also have drinkwater from wells that draw water from the same river. But they alos have outings, sometimes with children, sometimes with presentations on gloal warming or farming the connecting land in such a way that it does not pollute 'their' river. This evening the Friends were at a Trout and Winery near the Branch. We were guided by the owner along his fishponds and then his winery. We could taste all kinds of wine they produce there, and then had a good meal. It was a nice and informal meeting, concluded by storyteller Bil Surfus about the Big Frog and the River.
And this is the Branch River as it flows along the Michael Dodge Nature Preserve, where I stay, as seen from the Piper Cub that finds its home on the same land.
